View on Map

The View on Map tool can be accessed when one or more images are selected, by going to the Tools menu and under it the View on Map item. The Map window will be displayed (Image 1). Please note that for the map to work an active internet connection is necessary.

Image 1 - The Map Window

The selected images will be represented by red pins on the map, which will be at first centered on the first selected image. The map can be panned by clicking and dragging the map with the left mouse button or by using one of the arrows on the left top corner. To zoom in or out, use the + and - buttons also at the left top corner. The map can also be changed from its inicial hybrid map, which displays both satellite images with the road maps overlayed, to only satellite images or only road maps, by using the buttons on the right top corner.

To edit the GPS information of a photo all that is needed is to drag and drop an image's red pin to the desired location and the application will update the image's location. Please note that images with no GPS information will be displayed on the map as if their coordinates were at latitude 0, longitude 0, on the Atlantic Ocean, just south of Ghana. The red pin can then be dragged from there to its correct location, and to make that operation easier it is suggested to zoom out as much as possible to start with.

To identify which image is represented by one of the red pins, hovering the mouse cursor over a red pin will display the image's file name.

Once all the operations are done with the map, click the Close button to close it and return to the main screen.

The map is provided by Google Maps with use of its API.
